How to Fix your Lace Front Wig

As much as we love our wigs, sometimes, due to different reasons they are damaged. These accidents might be a result of rough handling, poor maintenance, and wrong storage, and so on.

This can lead to tearing, tangling, and a host of other problems.

These problems can occur in any type of wig. In this article, we will see what can be done when your lace front wig gets damaged.

Despite the seeming permanence of such damage, do not be scared. Although fixing a damaged lace front wig might seem like hard work, this article will show you how to fix it.

It is simpler than you think and can be adjusted from the comfort of your couch.

There are some basic things required to fix a damaged lace front wig. Here are some of the materials that you need.

  1. The damaged lace front wig
  2. A knot sealer
  3. Nail polish remover
  4. Wig head (preferably made from Styrofoam)
  5. T-pins

In fixing a lace front wig, there are different methods that you can use. These methods differ in ease and function.

They are:

  • Tape Method
  • Stitch method

Now, let us go in-depth into each of these methods.

  1. Tape Method

As the name implies, this method involves taping the affected part of your lace front wig.

As this involves hair (natural or synthetic), you cannot use regular tape to fix it. There is a special tape, the Lace front tape that serves this purpose.

Aside from the lace front tape, another tape required is the 3M Transpore tape. It is important that this tape is the width as the aforementioned lace front tape.

How to use the Tape method to damaged lace front wig.

Using this method is systematic. We will take you through the steps required.

First step to fix the lace front wig with the tape method

Apply some water to the hair, spraying it in a fine mist. After this, use a fine-toothed comb to comb the hair.

Do not comb it from the roots or you risk further damage to the wig.

Second step

Turn the wig inside out. Doing this means that the lace cap is facing you. If you do not do this, it will be difficult to see the area needing fixing.

The third step

To create a clean surface for the tape to adhere to, clean the damaged area. This is where the nail polish remover (acetone) comes in. Dab it on the damaged area and clean the area.

Fourth step

To aid the tape in adhesion, use the T-pins to join the edges of the damaged area together. Make sure that these damaged edges are touching each other.

Fifth step

After cleaning and using the T-pins to join the torn edges to each other, use the lace tape. Use it as you would paper tape.

Attach the tape firmly to the ripped area and ensure it adheres. If there are any excesses, you can use small scissors to cut these off.

Sixth Step

To ensure the tape adheres, add a layer of 3M Transpore tape. This tape should be the exact size of the lace tape.

This will make it stronger and prevent the lace tape from sticking to your scalp.

The Stitch Method

This method requires a needle, thread, and knot sealer.

Follow steps 1-4 of the Tape Method.

Fifth Step

Find a thread that matches the color of your lace or clear thread. Tie the ends of the threaded needle together to make your stitching stronger.

Sixth Step

Stitch the damaged area with a straight stitch. Do not make large stitches so your comb won’t get caught in it. Once stitching is done, cut off any loose threads.

Conclusion

That is how to fix a damaged lace front wig. We hope this article will help you.
